Our Vows

A wedding is “Public witness to mutual consent and pledges of troth: these are the things that make a marriage.” -Martin Ingrim. This is what constitutes a wedding (joining) under God’s law.

The purpose of vows are to make a covenant to God in regards to the other person. Oaths are made to the other person. They don’t need to be unique (everyone should read the same bible), but they do need to be:

– Biblical
– Meaningful
– Useful

They should describe not only the purpose, but especially the permanence of the covenant as written about here. Because of these things, we thought it wise to publish our vows not only in our program handout given to the witnesses (guests) at the wedding, but also here for anyone.

Gabriel’s Vows

I, Gabriel, vow to God, to take Evelyn as my beloved wife forever. To receive true authority through full submission to Christ. To obey all my callings, and demonstrate Him as Prophet, Priest, and King. To love, honor, cherish, and be faithful to my wife. To joyfully lead her as a fellow heir of Christ. To obediently sacrifice myself for her and our children, may He grant them. To imitate God’s great love for us, by accepting the primary responsibility in the wise discipline and governance of our children. And to present my wife in holiness before God. All this is to honor her earthly father and our Heavenly Father who gave me her.

Evelyn’s Vows

I, Evelyn, vow to God to take Gabriel to be my beloved husband forever. To submit to him under the authority given to him through Christ. As his God-gifted helpmeet, to respectfully and whole-heartedly assist with the advancement and execution of the callings given to him. To help build a Christ-centered home and a God-fearing family. To exemplify the Church in responding, relating, and treating my husband as Prophet, Priest, and King. To honor, love, cherish, and be faithful to my husband. To joyfully follow his leading for the mutual sanctification of our family before God. All this is to honor my husband and our Heavenly Father who gave me him.
